kidnapper (Tuesday, June 8, 2010 / 1:08 AM)

first of all, i got my invites to toy story 3 premiere screening in GSC Mid Valley 14th June 2010! whoooooo hooooooo thanks nuffie! it's like the biggest dream comes true. i love u nuffie!!! i shall review toystory 3 after i watch it!

and this is another movie review post!

Kidnapper

a singapore movie that isn't directed by Jack Leong. thank godness, the Singapore movie industry has been dominated by him for so damn long. it's good to have some new blood in the industry, and new genre of movie.

but the movie? personally i think that they need more improvement to reach a certain standard.

the storyline goes like this, the kidnapper accidentally kidnapped the son of a taxi driver, whom doesn't earn lotsa money and striving hard at the low socioeconomic level. and then, this kidnapper began to torture the son in cruel way in order to get the 1million dollars. he err..cut the kid to collect one bottle full of blood and etc. and then playing tricks with the father for the money. in the end, this kidnapper turned into a insane killer that attempted to kill both the father and son even he had got the money.

alright, the script sounds nice. but after i watch, i feel...the movie is trying to hard to send the message of a father's love across.

i mean, okie yes i got it, father's love to a son, that is willing to do anything for him, even sold his kidney for money. but ermm...how to say? they tried too hard that the whole thing seems fake and surreal.

i remember that's one part where the kidnapper called the father for the N times, to request to meet him. then the father suddenly lecture the kidnapper about how a father would feel when the son is between life and death. it's so weird. i mean it is supposed to be touching, and indeed it does make some innocent girls drop their tears (drop tears is not crying, quoted from Jess). but to me, if think of that logically, that doesn't make sense! how can a kidnapper rationalize what u said after he had stepped out and kidnapped someone? the movie just chose the wrong timing to say those words i think. if the father said that during his monologue, with the buildings and street moving rapidly behind him, i think it would be more dramatic, and touch deep down in my heart.

yes, that's what i have said. LOGIC. many parts of the movie just doesn't make sense. why does the kidnapper's ex gf/millionaire current wife confess to her husband about her past, but without mentioning what problem she is facing now? she can even ask for his help to save the boy and her daughter. then, the stupid old millionaire gave me the crap that i hated the most : because we are family, so we forgive each other. urgh! come on, that scene is just for her to confess herself, and totally meaningless because doesn't create much impact to the story after that. if the husband offer help, maybe when police get involved, the story would have a different climax, and don't look so ridiculous.

also, why would the kidnapper insisted to kill both the father and son in the end even though he has got the money? isn't money is the main motive that he kidnap the son in the first place? and then? fighting with them and got himself killed for what?? i think at the end the scriptwriter just wanted to have a happy ending eagerly, and turn the kidnapper into weird insane killer out of control.

urgh, whatever.

i think the cast does affect the movie. Lam Tuck Weng, being the popular radion station DJ, host in Astro shows and many other activities, was the mental problem kidnapper aka killer. hmm, he has been too famous for his humorous talks over the radio station, and a funny person in front of the screen. so, i have stereotyped him in that category, and obviously he wanted to change his image in this movie. oh well, like i said, i have already stereotyped him in that category. hmmm, let's put this in this way. imagine Jim Carey become a massacre killer in his new movie? or, if u watch Taiwanese show, NoNo act in a thriller movie and attempted to torture someone. it's just so weird right?

how can this happy go lucky face become a kidnapper? i know im being unreasonable, but still...

but well, good thing is, both the father and son are good. i never expect a young actor like him could be so natural. if u see him struggling and yelling for help when the kidnapper tortured him, u will feel a heartache and a feeling of sympathetic rose from your heart. also, the father, he had successfully portrayed as a father who would want to give his son his whole world. cut the crap that he said that make some scene abit fake, he's actually not bad. his facial expression. he cried when he thought he couldn't get his son back. his relief when he finally rescued his son. Christopher Lee is no doubt one of my favorite Singapore actor!

overall, 6 over 10. the bond between the father and the son save the movie! or else, the ridiculous storyline would have leave the audience with a WTF, just like how i feel after watching.

other than that, im getting my result tomorrow! AHHHH SCARYYY! many people get good results, i hope i can too! please please please, 5A's please. please please please, give me an A for Intercultural Communication. give me and A for Writing for Media! please please please....*fingers crossed*
